Is the experience or the most important powers in teaching English?

Experience triumphs pieces of paper - but only in the classroom!

Let me explain. Many educational institutions, especially in some places, being driven by the role. Let me quote one sad example.Currently teach English in an elite private University and writing articles for numerous publications, but I could not get a post of Professor at a California public school teaching English because I lack the Ma great derecha.La most public schools look for pieces of paper and not ask for the ability of classroom demonstrations.

Also expertise in many educational institutions continue to be of limited use. He has the course. Former President Clinton could not teach Government, history or social studies in public schools in California.Oscar winning actors can not teach Theatre in the schools. world class musicians can not teach music. It is totally absurd.

As a result of this obsession with credentials, abstract knowledge of paper and the undervaluation of experience, experts and teachers with experience of working with institutions of students and the elite income more altos.Las considerable differences between the public and private schools is even larger. System of public schools laps continuously far experienced, quality due to their very narrow what one notions teachers qualified to teach students. Homeschooling movement rapid growth of online education programs as rebellion against rigid, false notions of education populist view and can be.

Already in 1991 during the last serious economic crisis, I asked to teach in the Unified School District of angels (LAUSD). I had to convince a specialist human resources of the LAUSD a course in American Short Stories, in the Department of literature at the University of New York should be considered an English course! LAUSD "specialist" had never heard of the University of New York and not is has could care less about the quality of the educational institution. I just wanted to five courses in any Department of English.A Department of literature was not a Department of English. She changed my mind openly mocked his reasoning and promised to write an article about this absurdo.También it should be noted that I have spoken with 22 "specialists in human resources" that day because there were 22 lines on a form. The process took the entire día.Este approach "to create a job" to public education leads to dysfunction in so many levels. Every day in downtown in the bureaucracy is a dollar away from the classroom.

Later that week fills in the identical form in Santa Monica half-hour - Unified School District and spoke to a person.I chose to work in the school district of Santa Monica.

"We learn to walk by setbacks," goes the Bulgarian proverb.Teachers and pupils learn making and good mistakes.Larry M. Lynch, a prolific author, recently discussed this issue in "Are some credentials Overrated?" in his BetterEFLteacher.Él nailed the problem with the reading of 500 books to become a recognized expert rather than just throw yourself and gain practical experience of classroom blog.Thousands of teachers smart, talented and creative have taught English - with limited training - with great success throughout the world.

The best teachers often autotelic (autonomous) and share your passion for learning and love conocimiento.Que model is one of the reasons educators often works better than staying in public schools.A father is focused on the individual needs of their children and brings great passion to classes.Students need guidance and inspiration.

Just adding a new set of letters since magically a teacher name not transform them into a dynamic English teacher calidad.Realmente will withstand the ridiculous bureaucratic procedures and reciting the last educational jargon not certify skills teaching. education is still more than a form of art that a ciencia.Nuestras classrooms need authentic English teachers who exude vitality and awaken the curiosity of our wonderful, fascinating and confusing language student.

Japan and its education based on the standard test system

For some positive in Japanese education, need look no more than the local kindergarten or the local primary school. For everything except the teaching of English, they are doing good for the great job of educating the children of Japan. Classes are creative, teachers are students and careful, together, are happy and learning.

Education system around who like this from kindergarten to the end of the University, the Japanese people would be happy, healthy and productive, both in the GDP and creative terms.

Unfortunately, this ends at age 12. They are the years that initiates the hell of examination and the students never really recovered it.Based on standardized tests of Japan that begins in the years of high school education system kills any kind of initiative, creativity and the especially thinking outside of the cuadro.Por, unfortunately, these last three are what Japan especially needed in the 21st century; Perhaps Japan more than a 100 years challenge yet.

For many years, Japan has used this evidence-based education system and pass testing everything important is that educators and students, not to mention parents, focus on. The result of this test capture and stress, is a nation of taking order who have trouble making decisions, not to mention that indicates an opinion.

Do not believe me? when then meets with Japanese, just for fun, ask them their opinion about something. If you are able to give an opinion, then, do this: ask them why? Why feel like? In many cases, will be perplexed.

In spite of this hell of standardized test that most Japanese encounters during his school years, few aspiring Michelangelos managed to slip through. More, however, has stripped of them creative thoughts or numbed into oblivion.

Recently, one of my brilliant Japanese students returned North America to study once again in its ancient University in Japan. was surprised at the passivity of the students. He did not realize how passive, unresponsive and devoid of opinions were Japanese university students.

Said that in America, studied with students from around the world and he liked to hear and express their views with other users. He couldn't understand how Japan students were so passive and quiet. expressed the desire to return to United States as soon as possible to study there. Many Japanese who have lived abroad have said the same thing.

In the news, first Minister Yukio Hatoyama has been dubbed "loopy" by the American press, especially due to its lack of decision-making on the Okinawa base issue.Once took a decision, then turned around and were not met, and apologized to Okinawa for his backslide.Pero this lack of decision-making capacity is not limited to the general populationoccurs in all ranks of society japonesa.Hatoyama, of course, is a product of this education system.

It is not only students who have a difficult time; teachers are too. Many must have free time stress, while other create a life of servitude to their alumnos.Muchos Japanese seem to have lost his love for teaching and learning of one time enrolled in school made secundaria.De, too takes test may lead to superficial learning and a negative feeling towards school.

For future Japan should ask themselves: we are we create people we need to solve the problems of the future? if the answer is no, then this is a recipe for disaster.

Creative Japan needs thinkers, people who can think outside of the box to solve the problems of immigration, an ageing population, unemployment, employment of off-shore, trade, and of course, the medium ambiente.Sin embargo, perhaps the most urgent problem is the psychological health of citizens.

For the latter, and other problems mentioned above, I believe that there are valuable lessons to be learned in kindergarten.

JET - Japan as a teacher of English work programme

Founded in 1987, Exchange (JET) Japanese teaching program and was designed to help internationalize Japan youth while facilitating the teaching of English country program. Today with over 5,000 participants from over 20 countries, the JET programme has become the largest initiative of this kind. Do you already knew that though right? I am interested in more indicating what being a participant in the JET programme is like.

There are three categories for the JET - Assistant Professor of language (ALT), Coordinator for international relations (CIR) and Advisor program participants exchange of sports (SEA) .the most frequent is the OAB that is what I was from 2005-2007.

After being accepted after the exhausting process of application, you will be contacted by the contracting organisation and spoke of tasks and their assigned location. It is hoped that your location will be to your liking because cannot cambiarse.Yo was lucky and got what they wanted. Many an ALT does, but that doesn't mean that they are unhappy human beings we have a way to fun adapt to almost anything.

You can then fly to Tokyo to orientation - without having to pay much attention aquí.Basta with attending meetings and workshops and try to enjoy you. You will notice the great disconnect between what the large honchos in CLAIR and the Ministry are trying to achieve and what actually happens later.

Once you arrive at your post, you can get seated in a place and figure what is expected of you - this can vary widely and is one of the reasons of why many programs abovementioned JET will tell ESID... Each situation is different. I was lucky to work in a Board of education with supervisors very sympathetic and friendly.Even speak English!

My own JET experience was working in a medium size city where I am assigned to three secondary schools and made occasional visits from primary school.Wasn't ideal.Yo wasn't able to forge relationships with students and professors type that I would have liked because I was always coming and going. You will notice that he Snarls of their working conditions not you much in Japan until finally succumbed to a Japanese theme you will often hear...Shikatta ga nai (IT does not can be helped.)
I had the luck to live in a place with much to keep me entertained and mainly hanged with other anormalmente. No because I didn't like the Japanese, but due to my language skills, it is difficult to make friends.

After awhile, settled into a routine, and although I wanted that it could be making a greater impact on the job, was content to enjoy my free time, go out to eat, travel, enjoying the nightlife, etc.The JET program participants take a Japanese tea ceremony as judo pastime and found a great place to make Japanese friends.

Time go quickly and is up to you to make the best it. Japan is a wonderful place to live and encourage any of you still considering whether to apply to go mounted ello.He slide show so you can get a better taste of life in the programme JET is like.
